Suff Daddy - Pompette
2025-03-26
First time I heard Suff Daddy (this album) it immediately felt familiar. I am not sure if it is because the production on a couple of tracks is vaguely reminiscent of early 2010s Canadian hip-hop collective Sweatshop Union—The Trillionaires and Pigeon Hole in particular—or if it is because Suff Daddy fuses a bunch of things that I like from different genres, like slightly off-grid beats à la Dilla, laid back rapping behind the beat, nice, washy synths, slight (but not overwhelming) lo-fi aesthetic, bloopy NES-esque one-shots, and so on. However he achieves it, this German producer has conjured up a comfortable, interesting and groovy album.
