This Danish jazz trio (piano, bass, drums) is perfect for a Sunday morning—regardless if you are hung over or not. The style is very Nordic for reasons I cannot fully explain. It is calm, chill and very melodic and harmonic while venturing into funky grooves and odd meters at times but still keeping the Nordic chill. It is pretty non-controversial jazz, so it may not appeal to the Sun-Mingus-atonal-avant-garde-free-time aficionados out there, but it is just so nice to chill out to.
‘Equals’ from 2022 is their first album and is both a thoroughly well-composed and well-played album that manages to put up a very minimalist veneer but reveals several layers of rhythmic and harmonic complexity underneath and thus never really gets boring even after several listens.
