Drenched in a mysterious voodoo atmosphere, Mac Rebennack Jr. (aka. Dr. John) gives us some of the most swampy and sweaty bayou blues/soul the world has ever had the pleasure of hearing. It is also notable for its use of French Creole along with other linguistic traits from the New Orleans area.
The record famously prompted the president of Atlantic Records at the time, to exclaim: “How can we market this boogaloo crap?” And now, closing in on 60 years later, it is still regarded as one of the best psychedelic albums ever released.
